Just because I'm a girl does not mean I do pink! Do not try to lure me in with a pink gun; I'll turn around and walk off.
Just because I'm a girl does not mean I do hair and make-up, so don't try to portray me in full make-up and perfect hair.
Just because I'm a girl does not mean I am a size zero who goes to the range in skimpy clothing, so quit associating me with the scantily-clad "models" who've never fired a gun in their lives.
Yes, there are some women shooters out there who embrace the stereotype of pink guns, perfect hair and make-up, and are willing to show off their assests at the range.
I ain't one of them.
You'll find me at the range in old jeans or my 5.11s, hair in a ponytail, covered by a ballcap, my only make-up will be sunscreen (if I remember it) and range dirt and I sure the hell will have the parts of my body that are most likely to get brass burns covered up (though I don't know a female shooter out there who hasn't caught one between the twins, no matter how covered up you are). The finish on my Para is wearing off because it's so well used and when I have it re-finished, it won't be in pink that's for damn sure. And I'm no size zero - I love my food.
Not a hot supermodel, but REAL and I can shoot. |
Bravo, GunDiva. Bravo.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100%. :)
My wife dislikes the pink guns.
ReplyDeleteAt the range she is practical, just as she should be. She knows about the hot brass in cleavage dance.
But she can transform to be a stunning woman in a little black dress when called to do so. :-)
You are gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteI have no feeling for or against pink guns. I don't want one, but I don't care if someone else does, but I am totally with you on the half dressed chic at the range.
We get some real interesting folks come to train. All nice as can be, but many of the women make very poor clothing choices.
I am not a pink girl either!!!!
ReplyDeleteThey do this with horse stuff too!
Bleck
Great Post. I have to admit, I LOVE Pink! However, all of my guns are basic black, a couple have some natural wood thrown in. I like being a "girly-girl" as my husband calls it, with my dresses, 4 inch heels and makeup. But I also like my beat up 5.11s and pro-gun t-shirts and hiking boots.
ReplyDeleteNo reason I can't be both. But I don't do girly at the range, I've done the brass dance wearing a turtleneck, much lower is just asking for trouble!
Here's to being who you are!
Yes! I feel the same way. Thanks so much for saying it so perfectly!
ReplyDeletePREACH IT, SISTA! ;)
ReplyDeleteYou know my stance on this whole "Girls must have pink guns" craze.
Great post GD.
AMEN!
ReplyDeleteI don't personally have anything against women who shoot pink guns or go out to the range with perfect hair and make-up - it's just not me.
ReplyDeleteAlthough...I do get "dressed up" for the zombie match every October. I go all out - I paint my nails in either whoredog red or black or some other such appropriate zombie color. As soon as the match is over my nails are broken, the paint is chipped and it's time to get rid of it.
GBBL - I think my husband would say I clean up pretty good when the ocassion calls for it.
I think you are pretty cool just the way God made you:) and Rach thinks you are amazing.....LOL
